Rooney and Mourinho

The Blues will have to cough up £80million to sign Wayne Rooney from Manchester United.

The Londoners are on red alert after the Wazza camp last night made it clear their man wants out of Old Trafford.

New Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is aware Rooney wants a five-year deal and £200,000 a week to leave the EPL champs.

In addition to that £52m package, Chelsea would have to make £28m for his transfer fee.

Yesterday the Special One claimed Rooney needs to be assured of regular first-team football — or England’s World Cup hopes in Brazil will nosedive.

The 27 year-old last night ripped into Old Trafford bosses, insisting he was “angry and confused” over comments by new manager David Moyes that he would play second fiddle to Dutch ace Robin van Persie.

The veteran keeper has signed a one-year deal with Chelsea after leaving Fulham on a free last month.

The 40 year-old said: “It’s a phenomenal club — one of the biggest and best clubs in the world.

“It’s an honour to sign for Chelsea. I didn’t take much convincing to come here.

“I’ve spoken to the manager and it was very easy to make the decision that Chelsea was the right club for me.

“The size and ambition of the club and the opportunities at the club ticked all the boxes. It was an amazing opportunity to join a fantastic club.”

Schwarzer became the first overseas player to make 500 Premier League appearances and his signing seems to have solved Chelsea’s goalkeeping dilemma.

The Blues were looking for a back-up to No 1 Petr Cech following the release of Ross Turnbull and Hilario.

This week they had two formal offers for Norwich stopper John Ruddy rejected.

But in a statement Chelsea said they were ‘delighted’ to have landed a player capped 108 times by the Aussies.

The club added: “He brings with him a wealth of experience after more than 15 years in England with Bradford, Middlesbrough and Fulham.”

The deal takes Schwarzer through to next summer’s World Cup in Brazil, for which Australia have already qualified.

Schwarzer joined Bradford in 1996. He then signed for Middlesbrough and played more than 400 times in 11 years.

Highlights included lifting the League Cup in 2003 and playing in the 2006 UEFA Cup final. He also appeared 220 times for Fulham.

German International Andre Schurrle is set to become Jose Mourinho's first signing since his return as Chelsea manager.

The London giants have agreed an £18m fee with Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen for the Germany forward.

The 22 year-old will now discuss personal terms with the Stamford Bridge club and undergo a medical before completing the move.

Chelsea Football Club and Bayer Leverkusen have reached an agreement for the transfer of Andre Schurrle," a statement on the club's website read.

"The deal is subject to the completion of legal documentation and related matters, including personal terms and passing a medical."

Mourinho was confirmed as the new Chelsea manager on 3 June but Leverkusen had revealed interest from the Blues in Schurrle before the former Real Madrid manager's appointment.

Schurrle is a long-term target for the Stamford Bridge club, who had a bid for him rejected last summer.  The former Mainz player has since expressed his regret a move did not happen.

He has netted 11 goals in 34 league games in 2012-13 for Leverkusen, who finished in the third and final automatic Champions League qualifying place in the Bundesliga.

Schurrle, who is comfortable playing on the wing or in a central striking role, has also impressed for Germany - scoring seven goals in 24 appearances - and was included in their Euro 2012 squad.

The Ivory Coast International Yaya Toure and his agent yesterday made it clear that the former Barcelona man will be leaving City in the end of the season if the contract is not renewed by this Saturday.

Toure’s ultimatum has alerted European giants including EPL side Chelsea, who see the powerful Ivorian as the perfect replacement for aging Frank Lampard.

The 29 year-old still has two years of his contract to run and will have to pay £22m to buy his way out of the Premier League Champions. Under FIFA rules, players over the age of 28 are allowed to buy out their contracts if they have not been offered a new deal after three years at a club.

Roman Abramovich’s side will hand him that in a signing-on fee if it means they do not have to pay a transfer fee for a player. Yaya was brought by Manchester City for £25 Million from Barcelona in 2010.

Chelsea’s chase is made harder by La Liga giants Real Madrid as Jose Mourinho is a long term admirer of City Star.

A top Madrid source confirmed: “Jose loves Yaya and has wanted to sign him for years.”

European Champions Chelsea are interested in Tottenham full-back Vedran Corluka.

The versatile right-back is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane after falling behind Premier league young player of the season Kyle Walker in the pecking order.

The Blues’ have emerged as surprise suitors for the 26-year-old, with new manager Roberto Di Matteo believing he can provide much-needed competition at right-back and centre-half.

The Italian has been impressed with Corluka, who has been employed centrally during Croatia’s Euro 2012 campaign and is aware that the former Manchester City defender is discontented in North London.

The Croatian spent the second half of last season on loan at German side Bayern Leverkusen after failing to make a single league appearance for Spurs before January and last month, publicly questioned then manager Harry Redknapp’s lack of rotation.

If Corluka completes the move across the Capital, he will likely be part of a trio of Croatian departures from White Hart Lane this summer. Play-maker Niko Kranjcar has already joined Dynamo Kyiv, while spurs ace Luka Modric is wanted by the world’s biggest clubs including Real Madrid and Manchester United.

The North London side are unlikely to allow any players to leave before they appoint a new manager but have an abundance of young talent at right-back, including Walker, Kyle Naughton and England under-21 international Adam Smith.
Roberto Di Matteo
Russian big boss Roman Abramovich is ready to offer Roberto Di Matteo the Chelsea manager's job on a full-time basis as reward for guiding the London side to their first ever Champions League glory.

The 41 year-old, replaced Andre Villas-Boas in March and led the Blues to triumphs in the FA Cup and European Cup as interim caretaker boss.

Despite that success, Abramovich has been uncertain of whether to offer the Italian a permanent deal as he was thought to favor a move for departing Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola.

However, the Russian is now set to make a U-turn and offer RDM the position as he is not confident of landing Guardiola and is unconvinced by the alternatives.

"I think Di Matteo will stay for one year," an ESPN source said. "It might not be ideal, but I am sure he would take it.

"I am sure he wants the job and will go for it, believing he can prove he is worth keeping. There is sure to be a decision sooner rather than later."

Meanwhile, Chelsea legend Ron Harris believes Di Matteo "transformed a very, very ordinary" side into European champions and would be a worthy long-term manager at Stamford Bridge.

"The body language of the players told you that they were not happy under the previous manager, Andre Villas-Boas had clearly upset to many of them," Harris said. "A blind man could tell that the players didn't seem happy.

"Roberto Di Matteo changed all that. Once he took over certain players found themselves again, they performed under him whereas they were not performing before, so that cannot be a coincidence.

"Di Matteo transformed what had become a very, very ordinary side. They finished some 20 points behind the Premier League winners, which tells you how bad it was for a team that had always been challenging for the title."

Italian Roberto Di Matteo has been flawless in his three months as temporary coach of English giants Chelsea and the players will go all out to give him the Champions League trophy his efforts deserve, stand in skipper and midfielder Frank Lampard said on Friday.

RDM took over when an underachieving Andre Villas-Boas was sacked in March and has sparked an amazing turnaround, winning the FA Cup and guiding the team into Saturday's Champions League final against German outfit Bayern Munich.

There was little confidence among the players under Portuguese Villas-Boas but since the Italian was given the reins he has reinvigorated the dressing room and fired up the squad into a fully-focused unit.

"Robbie was clever at how he managed the situation," Lampard told a news conference on the eve of the final at Allianz Arena stadium. "He created confidence in the group from the training ground to the pitch.

"Quietly he has done a perfect job. If anyone deserves to win tomorrow for the work they have done then it is him."

Perched on a chair next to Frank, who will captain Chelsea in the final in the absence of the suspended skipper John Terry, was striker Didier Drogba and the club's talismanic echoed the views of his team mate.

"We had a difficult first half of the season but that's football," said the 34-year-old Ivorian while playing down suggestions the match with Bayern would be his farewell appearance in a blue shirt.

"We have managed to show everyone we are a big team. We are still here doing our best for the club and the fans. If we win tomorrow everyone will say it was a fantastic season."
