Rooney and Mourinho

The Blues will have to cough up £80million to sign Wayne Rooney from Manchester United.

The Londoners are on red alert after the Wazza camp last night made it clear their man wants out of Old Trafford.

New Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is aware Rooney wants a five-year deal and £200,000 a week to leave the EPL champs.

In addition to that £52m package, Chelsea would have to make £28m for his transfer fee.

Yesterday the Special One claimed Rooney needs to be assured of regular first-team football — or England’s World Cup hopes in Brazil will nosedive.

The 27 year-old last night ripped into Old Trafford bosses, insisting he was “angry and confused” over comments by new manager David Moyes that he would play second fiddle to Dutch ace Robin van Persie.

Rio Ferdinand End England Carrier
RIO FERDINAND

Manchester United defender Ferdinand announced his retirement from International football on Wednesday morning, the day before England boss Roy Hodgson is due to name his three Lions squad for the friendlies against Republic of Ireland and Brazil.

It was thought Ferdinand had a chance of being involved despite the furor that accompanied his withdrawal in March, when he was recalled for crucial World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro, only to withdraw citing an "intricate and pre-planned training regime".

But the 34-year-old is expected to sign a new contract with EPL Champions Manchester United this summer.

And, with Everton boss David Moyes replacing Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer, Ferdinand has decided the time is right to concentrate on club matters.

"After a great deal of thought, I have decided the time is right for me to retire from international football," said Ferdinand.

"At the age of 34, I feel it is right for me to stand aside and let the younger players come through, which allows me to concentrate on my club career.

"The team looks in great shape and there is an influx of young, talented players coming through the ranks which bodes well for the future."

Sir Alex said earlier this month that he felt Ferdinand had just had his best ever season.
It seemed like an extreme statement. But it is true that Ferdinand has had an outstanding campaign.

He collected his sixth Premier League title winners' medal on Sunday and made 33 appearances overall, even scoring that spectacular late winner against Swansea that ensured Ferguson's final game at Old Trafford was a victorious one.

His performances would certainly have brought an international recall were it not for the fact he pulled out of those World Cup qualifiers, having previously highlighted how keen he was to play for England.

It is probably not the way he would have wanted to end his 81-cap Three Lions career, particularly given the recriminations that followed his omission from Hodgson's Euro 2012 squad, which the coach insisted was for "football reasons" but Ferdinand always suspected it was a direct result of John Terry's presence.

However, Ferguson was sceptical about the defender's chances of balancing international and club involvement given the way he manages the long-standing back complaint that at one point threatened his entire career.

And now, with a new manager to impress, Ferdinand has reached the same conclusion.

"I regard it as a great honour and a privilege to have represented my country at every level from under-17s upwards," he said.

"I have always been very proud to play for England. I would like to wish Roy and the team all the best for future tournaments.

"A big thank you to all the fans, managers, coaching staff and players that I have worked alongside - the journey has been incredible."

It means Hodgson will have to look at alternatives for the Ireland and Brazil friendlies given Chris Smalling is injured and Joleon Lescott out of form.

Without actually playing a game, Ferdinand has dominated Hodgson's reign so far.

And the England boss paid due tribute to the former West Ham man on Wednesday morning.

"It is important to pay tribute to someone of Rio's stature and the achievements he had in a senior international career with England over 14 years at the highest level," Hodgson told the FA's website.

"To have captained his country, to play at three World Cups and indeed score in one of those, marks him out amongst a very special group of players.

"I appreciated the call from Rio to inform me of his decision, which clearly he had spent much time considering before reaching this point.

"I wish him all the best in his club career, and I'm sure the former managers he played under and every England fan will join me in thanking him for his service."

Club England managing director Adrian Bevington added: "On behalf of The FA, I'd like to thank Rio for his commitment to England.

"He came through the ranks from the U17s team and earned 81 senior caps for England, an amazing achievement.

"He has had a great career with the national team and was part of three World Cup squads.

"Rio has explained his decision to the England manager Roy Hodgson and we wish him all the best for the future."

Ferdinand made his international debut against Cameroon on 15 November 1997 and has scored 3 goals in 81 appearance for the Three Lions.

The Young Spaniard last night vowed to snub Barcelona and stay at Manchester United.
David De Gea has been linked with a move to the Nou Camp to replace contract rebel Victor Valdes.

He said: “I know things have been said and written but I have a contract. I’m very well in Manchester.

“It is not just my name that appears. At Barca, Valdes is still the keeper and Madrid is my city, one day I’d like to return.

“But now I hope to stay in Manchester for a long time and win a lot of titles.”

The 22-year-old has come under enormous pressure since joining English giants in July 2011 but paid tribute to boss Alex Ferguson for helping him to live with the criticism.

He added: “Sir Alex is more than a manager. He controls everything in the team. He’s a father for all those who come to the club. For that he is the best.”

De Gea’s recent form has been brilliant and he has been called up by Spain National side.

Vicente Del Bosque’s  team have a World Cup qualifying double header at home to Finland tonight and away in France on Tuesday.

De Gea said: “A footballer has to get used to good and bad words.

“At times things are said that don’t make a lot of sense and it is part of the job to know how to live with that. The best thing is to know who you are always.”

JOE HART

City custodian Jeo Hart is reeling from Manchester United going 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Hart and City blew any slender hopes of catching the leaders by losing 2-0 against Everton at Goodison park while United ground out a 1-0 win over bottom floaters Reading.

Hart said: “We’ve been up against a killing machine that keeps churning out results.

“Maybe we’ve drawn more than we would have liked to.

“This has not been a perfect season and it needs to be perfect to win this league.

“It’s not been this last year, that’s for sure. It’s been tough. We’re not in the position we want to be.

“We’re still in the FA Cup but a little further away in the league.

“Unfortunately when we do lose, United stretch that lead and it has been disappointing.”

City face Manchester United at The Old Trafford on 09th April 2012. They may also meet in the FA Cup semi finals, if United beat Chelsea in the return leg at Stamford Bridge on April 1.

United won its first League title under Ferguson in 1992-93 season. After 1993 season United never looked down, they were very dominant not only in England but also in Europe. The Old Trafford club won its first European Championship in 1998-99 seasons.

Manchester United are lining up a move for Porto winger James Rodriguez as a potential replacement for Nani.

Portugal star has already confessed publicly he may quit Old Trafford this summer, and Inter Milan are watching developments closely.

Colombian starlet Rodriguez is rated in the £25million range by Portuguese side Porto, and has already admitted a dream of playing for the Red Devils

United scouts have been tracking Rodriguez this campaign and even went to South America to watch him in action for the national team.

However, they may face competition for his signature from German giants Bayern Munich.
Nani, meanwhile, fears he is being frozen out of Old Trafford.

He is said be furious he has had no contact from anyone at United during Euro 2012, despite impressing at the tournament.

United boss Alex Ferguson is known for keeping in touch with his players by phone or text message, but sources within the Portugal camp say Nani is angry and feels isolated.

The revelation comes amid fears within Nani’s camp that the winger is being forced out of United, who have yet to offer him a new contract.

Nani still has two years left on his existing deal, but it was expected the 25-year-old would be rewarded with an improved contract to reflect the progress he has made at United.

But negotiations between Nani’s representatives and United have stalled, with the former fearing the latter are trying to ship him out of Old Trafford.

The arrival of Japan star Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund, and the fact wingers Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia are already established at United, has cast doubt on Nani’s future.

Shinji Kagawa - Manchester United
SHINJI KAGAWA - DORTMUND
Borussia Dortmund playmaker Shinji Kagawa is set to sign for Manchester United, according to reports.

Kicker magazine claims a source close to the player has indicated that Red Devils will sign Kagawa for €15million (£12million) alongside performance related add-ons.

The 23 year-old, is one of brightest young stars after netting 21 goals in 46 appearances for the Bundesliga champions.

If signed by United, Kagawa will be the second player from Asia to feature in the United first team. Premier league giants signed South Korean Park Ji-Sung in 2005 and he has been a regular at Old Trafford for the past seven seasons.

This is not the first time the Japan international has been linked to United. Kagawa had confessed to having met legendary Sir Alex Ferguson in the middle of May but a stumbling block proved to be Dortmund's resistance in agreeing to a transfer. Dortmund chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke demanded a "princely sum" if he was to sanction the highly-rated midfielder's move to the Premier League.

Kagawa was also mistakenly quoted at the start of last month as saying, "May 12 will be my last game for Dortmund and then I will start a new chapter in Manchester United."

United are interested in signing a new midfielder and were actively pursuing Lille's Eden Hazard only for the Belgian to declare on Tuesday that he had opted to join European Champions Chelsea instead.
