The Brazilian midfielder set to join Tottenham from Corinthians for £17million and has been compared to Chelsea’s all-time top scorer Frank Lampard.

And he wants to deliver goals like Lamps when he arrives at North London outfit this campaign.

The 24 year-old said: “This comparison is a responsibility I will take, I will not run away from it.

“Lampard is a great player not only for Chelsea but world football.

“I intend to follow in his footsteps as he is a very professional guy. David Luiz always speaks of him on international duty.

“I’ve always looked at what Lampard does and, to me, he is a phenomenon — the way he hits the ball, what positions he takes up. He really is incredible.”

BALE IN PAIN, ANKLE INJURY AGAINST BASEL AT WHITE HART LANE
Tottenham players are nervously awaiting Friday's scan on the Wales international's damaged ankle, but they retain hope that Spurs star man will make a speedy recovery.

Gareth Bale was stretchered off at the end of Europa League quarter-final first leg tie with Switzerland outfit Basel at White Hart Lane. The scores finished level at 2-2 ahead of the return match in St. Jakob-Park.

The Wales international tipped to challenge for the Premier League's Player of the Season award appeared to twist awkwardly on his right ankle, and was in visible pain as he disappeared down the tunnel. Bale's injury compounded the earlier loss of Aaron Lennon, who departed in the first half.

Andre Villas-Boas' men are currently third in the league, four points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal in their hunt for Champions League football. With crucial games against Everton, Chelsea and Manchester City next up in their schedule, the potential loss of Bale could be a devastating blow.

However, Gylfi Sigurdsson - scorer of Spurs' equalising goal - retains hope Bale's injury will not be as bad as first feared. The midfielder admits both he and Lennon are crucial to the club's push for a successful end to the campaign.

"It's hard to say, but hopefully he (Bale) will recover quickly and be ready for the next game,"
Sigurdsson told Sky Sports News.

"He's very important to us. Those two players (Bale and Lennon) would be important to any team and hopefully they'll get back soon."

Mousa Dembele also offered a positive outlook on Bale, stating "we hope that he will be fit", while Villas-Boas is anticipating a boost when scan results come back later on Friday.

"He rolled on his ankle, at the moment there is a lot of pain, but hopefully [it's] not as bad as it could have been,'' the Tottenham manager told BBC Sport.

European Champions Chelsea are interested in Tottenham full-back Vedran Corluka.

The versatile right-back is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane after falling behind Premier league young player of the season Kyle Walker in the pecking order.

The Blues’ have emerged as surprise suitors for the 26-year-old, with new manager Roberto Di Matteo believing he can provide much-needed competition at right-back and centre-half.

The Italian has been impressed with Corluka, who has been employed centrally during Croatia’s Euro 2012 campaign and is aware that the former Manchester City defender is discontented in North London.

The Croatian spent the second half of last season on loan at German side Bayern Leverkusen after failing to make a single league appearance for Spurs before January and last month, publicly questioned then manager Harry Redknapp’s lack of rotation.

If Corluka completes the move across the Capital, he will likely be part of a trio of Croatian departures from White Hart Lane this summer. Play-maker Niko Kranjcar has already joined Dynamo Kyiv, while spurs ace Luka Modric is wanted by the world’s biggest clubs including Real Madrid and Manchester United.

The North London side are unlikely to allow any players to leave before they appoint a new manager but have an abundance of young talent at right-back, including Walker, Kyle Naughton and England under-21 international Adam Smith.

NIKO KRANJCAR  - TOTTENHAM
Tottenham and Croatia midfielder Niko Kranjcar set to leave North London side for Ukrainian outfit Dynamo Kiev.

Kranjcar has struggled to break in to the Spurs first team over the last two campaigns, partly due to the exceptional form of Gareth Bale.

Boss Harry Redknapp has constantly stated he is not looking to sell the player despite using him sparingly, but the 27-year-old - who is currently on international duty at Euro 2012 - says he is close to moving to the Ukrainian side.

"The clubs have agreed," Kranjcar told Croatian website Jutarnji List.

"Now all that remains are some small details as I agree personal terms.

"I personally am not involved with that. I have left that to the people that represent me as I am concentrating on the Euros."

Harry signed Kranjcar from his former side Portsmouth in 2009 and he made a great impact in his first season, netting five goals and providing many assists from the left flank in 32 appearances.

But the emergence of Wales international Bale meant the Croatian dropped down the pecking order the following season and only made nine Barclays Premier League starts in 2011/12, although his campaign was shortened by a knee injury.

Last month the versatile player confessed he could be attracted by a big-money move to Russia or Ukraine.

"In Russia and Ukraine, playing football you can earn huge money," Kranjcar told Croatian website Index. "Whether we admit it or not, money is important."
