Chelsea and Real Madrid in Race to Sign Yaya Toure

The Ivory Coast International Yaya Toure and his agent yesterday made it clear that the former Barcelona man will be leaving City in the end of the season if the contract is not renewed by this Saturday.

Toure’s ultimatum has alerted European giants including EPL side Chelsea, who see the powerful Ivorian as the perfect replacement for aging Frank Lampard.

The 29 year-old still has two years of his contract to run and will have to pay £22m to buy his way out of the Premier League Champions. Under FIFA rules, players over the age of 28 are allowed to buy out their contracts if they have not been offered a new deal after three years at a club.

Roman Abramovich’s side will hand him that in a signing-on fee if it means they do not have to pay a transfer fee for a player. Yaya was brought by Manchester City for £25 Million from Barcelona in 2010.

Chelsea’s chase is made harder by La Liga giants Real Madrid as Jose Mourinho is a long term admirer of City Star.

A top Madrid source confirmed: “Jose loves Yaya and has wanted to sign him for years.”
