Altidore
joined from Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar for a fee of around £6million.
The
American international arrived on Wearside to complete a medical and will head
for the Black Cats’ training camp in Italy to join up with other new recruits
Modibo Diakite, Valentin Roberge, Cabral, Duncan Watmore, David Moberg Karlsson
and goalkeeper Vito Mannone.
The 23
year-old began his career at New York Red Bulls and played in the Premier
League for Hull City in 2009-10.
He
scored 38 goals in 67 appearances for AZ and netted 17 times in 60 games for
the United States.
